Junior and Senior Classes
Applied Personal Fitness(APF)-10th ,11th and 12th grade students will have priority in course registration This class is designed to be sport specific with workout programs for both in-season and out-of-season athletes. Principles relating to conditioning, strength, flexibility, body composition, and the study of the sport will be addressed. Students will be required to participate in weight lifting, speed training, agility and cardiovascular activities.
Junior Leaders-Yorkville High School offers a two-tier leadership program for juniors and seniors. The program begins with a yearlong training course entitled Junior Leaders. This course is offered to students who are interested in developing leadership skills within a Physical Education environment. Students will demonstrate leadership qualities coaching, officiating, rules and techniques, leading warm-ups, administering fitness testing, teaching progressions and methods of organizing and administering various types of activity classes. Junior Leaders is a prerequisite for our Senior Leaders Course. Students that successfully complete Junior Leaders are then eligible to enroll in the Senior Leaders course.
Adpated Physical Education-This class is an extension of the physical education curriculum. It involves students assisting their peers that have special needs. Students will have the opportunity to assist in demonstrations, lead group activities, participate and teach one-on-one or in small groups while participating in a variety of activities.
Beginning Dance-This course is designed for beginning level dancers. The purpose of this class is to introduce students to basic technical, sensory, expressive, and formal elements of dance. Technical work, improvisation, composition and studio performances will be expected.
Body Sclupt-This class provides an introduction of cardiovascular activities through aerobic movements. Students will address the principles of muscular strength and body toning through the use of free weights and resistance bands. Core workouts, step aerobics, cardio kickboxing, yoga, Pilates, and relaxation techniques will be used as a method to increase flexibility, strength, and balance.
Non-Trdational PE-This class provides challenges for students interested in a non-traditional physical education approach. The students will gain knowledge and insight into the following outdoor educational activities: fishing, archery, survival skills, teambuilding activities, Frisbee golf and bowling. Through these activities students will gain self-confidence, trust, cooperation, and be able to communicate more effectively with each other. This class will also include physical fitness activities, fitness games and a bowling unit. Non-Traditional PE Units: Fishing, Archery, Survival Skills, Teambuilding activities, Frisbee Golf, Bowling
Team Sports1-This class is comprised of team sports that are played at an intense, competitive level. Emphasis will be placed on the rules of the sport, skills needed to play, officiating and game-play. It will include six units from the following activities: basketball, volleyball, floor hockey, flag football, soccer, softball. This class will incorporate physical fitness activities and fitness games involving cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, strength, speed, and agility. Team Sports I PE Units: Basketball, Volleyball, Floor Hockey, Flag Football, Soccer, Softball
Team Sports 2-This class is comprised of team sports and games that are played at an intense, competitive level. Emphasis will be placed on the rules of the sport, skills needed to play, officiating and game-play. It will include six units from the following activities: speedaway, ultimate Frisbee, cricket, Lacrosse, and team handball. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in a bowling unit. This class will incorporate physical fitness activities and fitness games involving cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, strength, speed, and agility. Team Sports II PE: Speedaway, Ultimate Frisbee, Cricket, Lacrosse, Team Handball, Bowling
Lifetime Sports-This class is comprised of recreational activities that one can participate in for a lifetime. This class focuses on individual sports and will include but is not limited to the following units: badminton, pickle-ball, golf, Frisbee golf, and bowling. This class will also incorporate physical fitness activities and fitness games involving cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, strength, speed, and agility. Lifetime Sports PE Units: Badminton, Pickle ball, Golf, Frisbee Golf, Bowling
Personal Power-This class is designed to give students the unique opportunity to participate in a wide-ranging Physical education class. Students will get to know others in their class while participating in teambuilding activities. They will also participate in cardio-vascular fitness activities throughout the lifetime motion unit. Furthermore, students will also experience the team sports, volley-tennis and eclipse-ball during the Net sports unit. Students will also have the opportunity to go bowling in this course. This class will incorporate physical fitness activities and fitness games involving cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, strength, speed, and agility.
